Together we are stronger: libraries must be prepared to join together and form alliances with related institutions and organisations, industry and government to meet IFLA’s goal of inclusive, universal and equitable access to information for all people, and to uphold the conviction that high-quality library services help guarantee that access.
There is tremendous energy within the field and in the activities undertaken in countries across the globe to accomplish these aims. The five congress subthemes articulate areas where work is underway and highlight areas which will need to be considered. WLIC 2021 presentations and sessions, aligned with each subtheme, provide starters for discussion, ideas to take away, and options to implement:
We are focused on the future of education and innovation. We work within and outside of the field to build skills and competences among users, and to support innovation and research.
We advance the field through creative solutions. We demonstrate what is possible through resourcefulness and ingenuity.
We are focused on the future of society and democracy. Through inclusive collections and programming, we reach out to and support all communities, leaving no-one behind.
We engage in future-thinking. We effectively use technology to carry out our missions and look critically at the impact of technology on the field’s principles.
We are focused on the future of the environment and the wider economy. We contribute to the safeguarding of cultural and natural heritage, and support improved, long-term decision-making in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To reach IFLA's vision of a strong and united library field, powering literate, informed and participative societies, we must work together. Join us at IFLA’s WLIC 2021, where the field comes together to share how libraries, librarians and information professionals create enduring value for societies across the globe. We must act together to build the future we want, for the field and for the communities we serve.
